The Ga Traditional Council has directed that no person from the family of the late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, be enstooled as Ga Manye.

Failure to comply with this directive will have dire consequences, the Council said in a statement issued on Monday.

This follows the alleged misconduct of the Head of the Family of the late Naa Dedei Omaedru III, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, the Family Spokesperson, Asafoiatse Kotey-Ga, the children of the late Ga Manye, and the Ga Manye Weku in the run-up to the funeral of late Naa Dedei Omaedru.

The Ga Traditional Council said that instead of supporting it to organize “a befitting funeral for the late Ga Manye and to respect the injunction contained under the Chieftaincy Act 2008 (Act 759) for persons to show respect to Chiefs and to hold them in high regard, the Family of late Naa Dedei Omaedru III chose to show disrespect and disregard and held the entire membership of Ga Traditional Council in contempt with attitudes aimed at causing grave embarrassment to the Council and disaffection towards it.”

As such, the Ga Traditional Council has resolved that “until further notice, no attempt should be made to provide a candidate for enstoolment as Ga Manye or for the enstoolment of any person as Ga Manye from the Family where the late Queen mother Naa Dedei Omaedru III hailed from failing which any such conduct will be met with dire consequences.”

The Council also says that with immediate effect, it will no longer recognize Nii Kotey Ga as Asafoiatse of Asere Djorshie. Therefore, the said Asafoiatse Kotey-Ga should cease to hold himself out as such.

The Council further called on all subjects of Asere Djorshie and throughout the Ga State not to accord him any such recognition.

“The Head of Family of late Naa Dedei Omaedru III, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, and the immediate family including the children of the late Queen mother their agents, servants, assigns, privies, or whomsoever acting on their behalf are also prohibited from attempting to perform any other funeral concerning the passing of the late Ga Manye since the Ga Traditional Council has concluded all funeral rites concerning the late Queen mother.”

“That since a Queen mother under the customs, traditions, and practices of the Ga people only advises and compliments a chief, it is essential that the family of a candidate collaborates with the chief whom she will compliment. To this end, the Ga Traditional Council has directed that no candidate for the position of a Ga Queen mother can be chosen for enstoolment without their knowledge and consent,” it further stated.
