The Ministry of Roads and Highways has condemned the country’s ongoing practice of defacing public infrastructure with advertisements and notices.

According to the Ministry, the practice has resulted in devaluing the country’s road infrastructure, distracting and misinforming drivers, and reducing the beauty of the environment.

A statement issued by the Transport Ministry on Wednesday (8 November), said the practice is unacceptable and contravenes provisions of the Ghana Standard Authority’s advertisement specifications for outdoor signs.

“It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Roads and Highways that the public road infrastructure across the country is continuously being defaced with adverts and notices.”

“This practice is unacceptable and contravenes provisions of the Ghana Standards Authority’s advertisement specifications for outdoor signs (GS 847-2019) in section 5, sections 11 and 15 of Act 540 and section 188 of LI2180,” the statement said.
