Pharrell Williams makes history at Louis Vitton after Virgil

Pharrell Williams, the award-winning American artiste as well as Entrepreneur has been named the creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear since the death of Virgil Abloh in over a year.

Pharrel Williams’ appointment is history as he becomes just the second time a Black American designer has held a head position at the French luxury house after Abloh made the history of becoming the fashion powerhouse’s first black director.

In a statement released by the fashion powerhouse via their Instagram handle “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in ParisContinued the statement, “Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion – establishing himself as a cultural global icon over the past twenty years. The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship

Pharrell Williams himself is no stranger to the world of fashion as he launched his own streetwear line, Billionaire Boys Club, in 2003 and has over the years had partnerships with an array of brands including Adidas, Chanel and Tiffany & Co which to many answers the question of his competency as far as his appointment is concerned.

Virgil Abloh, the former creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear died in November 2021 after a private battle with cardiac angiosarcoma that will eventually end his life, he was 41 at the time of his very unfortunate passing away.
