On March 17, 2023, the final funeral ceremony for the late Black Star player Christian Atsu will take place.

His family has confirmed that the statehouse’s forecourt will be the location of the burial ceremony.

This was announced at the one-week celebration held at Adjiringanor Astroturf in Accra.

Meanwhile, the late Ghanaian footballer will be given a befitting burial, the government’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif assured.

“Government has taken all the cost of the one-week celebration. The funeral will be a state funeral. Government will take the cost of that as well because of the late footballer’s contribution to Ghana’s football.

“Aside from that, the way and manner in which our brother died was devastating and this is the time for us all to come together to give him a befitting funeral.”

On February 6, 2023, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck parts of Turkey and Syria claimed the life of the football player.

After an 11-story building collapsed on Atsu and others in Turkey, his lifeless body was found under the rubble.

On February 19, 2023, on a Sunday, his body was transported from Turkey to Ghana.
