Dr Eric Nkansah, whose appointment generated controversy among teacher unions, has been confirmed as the substantive Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The confirmation was communicated to all regional directors of education in a correspondence dated Wednesday, January 4.
The correspondence was signed by the Acting Director of Human Resource, Angela Frimpomaa Nkansah.
“Management wishes to inform you that Dr Eric Nkansah, Ag. Director-General, has officially been confirmed as the Director-General of the Service.
“In effect, all correspondence and memoranda should be addressed as such.
“Congratulations to Dr Eric Nkansah, Director-General, Ghana Education Service.”
Dr Nkansah’s appointment as a replacement to Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwah on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 generated lots of controversies.
The major teacher unions proceeded on strike as a result of the appointment.
According to them, a long-standing principle of appointing a professional to the post had been breached.
The strike was later called off, nonetheless.
