Senior Police Officer Chief Superintendent Micheal Vierra has passed on.
The death from COVID-19 is confirmed to be the consequence of the police officer who doubles as public health practitioner.
The policeman, reportedly died in the International Maritime Hospital of Tema on February 19, 2021.
The senior officer had recently lost his wife and arranged for her funeral.
The late Superintendent has added to the list of leading Ghanaians who lost their lives as a result of COVID-19.
However, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has recorded more deaths related to COVID-19 bringing the total number of fatalities to 582.
In its latest update, the health authority also recorded 506 new COVID-19 cases bringing the active case count to 6,812.
Recoveries from COVID-19 have increased to 73,365 with a total of 80,759 confirmed cases.
