Security man dies in gas explosion at Eastern Regional Hospital

A security man has died when a medical oxygen cylinder exploded in the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua on Thursday, medical officials said.

According to eyewitnesses, the security man whose name was given as “O Master” was helping to offload medical oxygen cylinders when the ten-point zero cubic meter chamber exploded.

He sustained head injuries and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital where he was placed on a ventilator but passed on later on Friday.

Hospital officials say two others sustained chest injuries and are receiving treatment at the medical facility. The blast was so intense that it affected the roofing of the storage room where the cylinders were being kept.

Meanwhile, the management of the hospital, who have informed the family of the deceased about the unfortunate incident, said they are cooperating with the police, who have started with the investigations.
