The Ashanti regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ has denied claims by former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen that his followers were targeted by some faceless members of the party in higher position.

Reacting to the NPP’s founding member’s resignation announced on Monday 25th September 2023, Wontumi said, Alan has been over pampered in the party for far too long with his resignation intended to frustrate the party by creating divisions.

“Nothing has been skewed to favor Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We support Bawumia because he is the most credible candidate among all the aspirants. The one district one factory project was never an idea of Alan. It was Gifty Ohene Kunadu’s idea, Alan should give us a break’’ he disclosed.

He explained that Alan is just not popular in the NPP “the just ended NPP’s special delegate’s conference. Alan claimed he was cheated, which is false. Why did Kennedy Agyapong pull more votes than him? Bawumia never cheated him, but the King makers rejected him simple’’.

He warned “This party will protect Dr. Mahamudu like we did for Nana Akufo Addo before during and after election 2024 we will do everything possible to make sure Dr Bawumia is elected as our flagbearer and win the 2024 elections. Jesus Christ started with 72 disciples, but he ended with 12 people. Even with the 12, Judas betrayed him so Alan can go’’.

Alan Kyerematen is one of the people who have benefited well in NPP he alleged “when President Kuffour appointed him as Minister of Trade and Industry he really enjoyed with his girlfriends, wife, Children and his family. We will not shut up. I will speak even though our general secretary has directed we shouldn’t speak about his resignation. I will deal with Alan’’.

Public reactions in Kumasi

Electorates and some NPP supporters in the Ashanti region are divided over Alan’s second resignation from the NPP. They believed the leadership of the party had not treated him well.

However, it’s not automatic that he will make a significant impact in the upcoming elections until he formally launches his policies (manifesto) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
