11 million unregistered SIM cards to be deactivated by May 31

The National Communications Authority (NCA), has announced the deactivation of some 11 million unregistered SIM cards by end of this month.

According to a Facebook post by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the NCA notes that there are still 11 million SIM cards that have not been registered, despite numerous reminders and extensions of the registration deadline.

This was made known when the minister visited the authority to update himself on issues regarding the SIM registration exercise.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also visited the Media Monitoring Centre which is a collaboration between the NCA and National Media Commission (NMC) to assure both content and technical standards are upheld.

“This morning at the NCA an update was provided on the SIM registration exercise. 11 million sims which remain unregistered will be deactivated by end of May if not registered.

Also had the opportunity to visit the Media Monitoring Centre which is a collaboration between the NCA and NMC to assure both content and technical standards are upheld,” the Facebook post said.
