Supreme Court Adjourns Election Petition Hearing To January 26

The Supreme Court has adjourned hearing of the 2020 Election Petition to Tuesday, January 26.

The adjournment comes after the president of the seven-member panel of judges, Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah spelt out Orders for Parties in the case to go by in their case management.

The Lead Counsel for the Petitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata, who was unhappy with timelines for the adjournment asked the Court to take a second look at its time but the Court declined on grounds of expeditious trial.

Mr. Tsikata then told the Court that in its attempt to try the case fast, it must be careful not to sacrifice justice for expediency.

Speaking to the media after Court, one of the Counsels for President Akufo-Addo, Frank Davies, told the media Mr. Tsikata’s assertion is unfortunate because justice delayed is justice denied.

Former Attorney General, Marrietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, also spoke to the media and disagreed with some of the Court orders.

Although the Court has adjourned to 26th of this month, it will sit on a new application filed by the petitioner seeking to review the ruling of the court that denied him from interrogating the EC on some 12 questions.

Key among them is how the EC transmitted the 2020 election results but Kojo Oppong Nkrumah one of the spokespersons for the President’s legal team reiterated that all what the petitioner’s legal team is doing is to delay the court processes but the court has ignored them.
