The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has declared that, from Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October, the filing of nomination forms for the presidential and parliamentary candidates for this year’s general elections will begin.
Speaking to reporters at EC headquarters on Monday, 14 September, Commission Chair Jean Mensa announced that the nominating forms would be available on the EC website from 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
But it is only by special keys that candidates can enter the forms that will be made accessible to the general secretaries of the different political parties.
Independent applicants, Mrs. Mensa stressed, will access the passwords from the Commission’s IT department.
She noted that, in an attempt to minimize sexual interaction and human trafficking, the Commission also adopted new steps under a general agreement to ensure a COVID-19-free exercise.
She said on days of collecting nominations for presidential aspirants at the party’s headquarters, the time will be every day between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
The Chair of the Commission suggested that all members are expected to apply the forms in quadruplicates.
Parliamentary aspirants are required to apply to the District Returning Officers for their nominations.
Presidential aspirants will register at GH 100,000 while GH 10,000 will be submitted by parliamentary candidates.
