With respect to their appearance, female athletes in Ghana have faced their fair share of sexism over the years.
On the attractiveness scale, the likelihood of local female athletes to be considered near to the bottom is very high.
Sherifatu Sumaila, the Black Queens forward, has weighed in on this distorted construct and urged Ghanaian men to look beyond racism.
On her official Twitter account, she wrote,
Female athletes are the best wives. We are trolled for having firm bodies. We have strong hearts, can endure anything that comes our way, are patient and understanding.”
The 23 year old plays for Swedish side Mallbackens IF.
