The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, ordered the police to step up inquiries into the murder of Ekow Kwansah Hayford, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, and to book the criminals.
It is confirmed that Mr Hayford was killed on Friday morning when some alleged armed robbers assaulted his convoy in his constituency on the Abeadze Dominase-Mankessim route. He was back from a trip to vote.
A statement signed on behalf of the Speaker by Kate Addo, the Parliament’s Director of Public Relations, stated: “Parliament is stunned and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Hon Ekow Quansah Hayford, Member of Parliament for Mfantseman.”
For the first time, a Member of Parliament has sat on the Justice Committee and on the Committee on Defence and the Interior.
“The late Hon Member was quiet, hardworking man who did his job diligently with very little fuss.
Although grieving the death of their comrade, Mike Aaron Oquaye and representatives have voiced hope for expedited action to identify and book the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
“The Parliament expresses profound sympathy to his wife and children, to his colleagues, to his friends, to the Mfantseman Constituency and to the country as a whole.”
