The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, reports that the government has obtained EUR 71.5 million to establish and equip twelve ( 12) 40-bed hospitals throughout the country with related staff housing facilities for hospital staff.

On Sunday 13 September 2020, President Akufo-Addo, conducting the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Mim Community Hospital, clarified that the reason for the construction of these hospitals is to guarantee access to healthcare for all Ghanaians by upgrading existing healthcare facilities and building new ones in areas where none exist in the region.

According to President Akufo-Addo, Erste Community Bank AG has secured funds for the building of these hospitals and? Spo eská? Itelna a.s., with hospitals expected to be built by Austria’s VAMED Engineering GmbH, a world pioneer in healthcare facility building.

Recipient groups in the Eastern Region are Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Achiase and Adukrom; in the Ashanti Region, Suame, Drobonso, Sabronum, Manso Nkwanta, Twedie; and in the Greater Accra Region, Kpone Katamanso.

It is estimated that these programs, including that of Mim, will be finished in twenty-four (24) months.

“The introduction of these initiatives serves as further proof of the government’s dedication to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations for 2030 and Comprehensive Health Care for all Ghanaians,” said the President.

He said, “Taking primary health care services to the doorstep of families and residents remains my government’s priority agenda and will proceed beyond 2020.” This health infrastructures are fantastic benefits for our country, and can help minimize morbidity and mortality in maternal and child health.

Upon completion, the following staff offices will be constructed in the Mim Community Hospital; outpatient department and public health wing; surgical suite consisting of a theatre, rehabilitation room and sterilization facility; delivery center and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU); clinic, pharmacy and x-ray; thirty (30) adult, female and pediatric bed room; laundry facilities block.

Other elements of the project kit include medical equipment supply and installation; warranties and repair for 1 year after completion; and a training component for workers.

President Akufo-Addo urged VAMED Engineering GmbH, the contactor, to work assiduously to ensure that this project is completed on schedule and on budget and that “they will hire indigenous people during the construction phase.”

“He told Mim’s chiefs and people that the building of the hospital project is a symbol of greater things to come for the region, adding that” with four more for Nana and the NPP, I expect all of us, gathered here, to be present again, God-willing, once this project is completed, for commissioning.
