The Deputy Commissioner responsible for Corporate Services, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, claims that all rejected candidates had ample time to correct any irregularities prior to the conclusion of the appointment process.
Speaking at The Probe with Emefa Apawu on Sunday, Dr Eric Bossman Asare denied the Commission’s allegations that both presidential candidates had the same chance to go through their forms for further correction.
He suggested that the 5-day timeframe given for the filing process was sufficient time for applicants to correct any mistakes found in their forms.
All the parties were given the opportunity and we handled the parties equally, including individual aspirants, as far as the EC is concerned.
“Anyone who has suggested that the Commission has not given him / her the opportunity to make the corrections is not factual to the people of this country,” he said.
He argued that the mandate of the Commission is so sacred that there is no space for participation in anything that threatens the interests of individuals or of any political party.
The question of forgery of signatures, along with other grounds according to him, led to the disqualification of some five presidential candidates.
These disqualified candidates include Kofi Koranteng, Marricke Kofi Gane, the independent presidential nominee, and Akwasi Addai Odike, the United Democratic Party presidential aspirant.
The others were Kwasi Busumbru and Nana Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party, the presidential nominee for the People’s Action Party.
If they would have concerns with the appointment process, the Deputy Commissioner urged the aggrieved citizens to go to arbitration.
