A court in Accra has charged five supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with conspiracy to commit murder.
Sources close to the development told Yen.com that the five were part of some 52 persons arrested in connection with the electoral violence that ensued in the Odododiodio constituency during the just-ended general election.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Lante Vanderpuye was also briefly arrested over the chaos.
The case against the five has been described as politically orchestrated.
According to the research assistant of Vanderpuye, Sammy Laryea, the suspects have been granted bail to re-appear on February 3, 2021.
Addressing the media after the court proceedings, he refuted claims that members of the party were wielding guns. “Nobody has fired a weapon; no member of the party was seen rioting,” he stated.
For him, the supporters arrested were innocent of the murder charge against them.
