Food costs, which are now rising at the slowest rate in a year, contributed to a decrease in inflation for September.

Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim, the government statistician, said that inflation, which gauges how prices fluctuate over time, decreased to 38.1% in September from 40.1% in August.

He claims that the number has decreased for the second month in a succession, with food inflation for September 2023 being 49.4%, down from 51.9% in August.

He went on to say that this is the lowest in 5 months and that the result places food inflation month over month at 1.6%.

Professor Kobina Anim said that the non-food index for September was 29.3%, down from 30.9% in August, and that the non-food inflation rate was 2.1% from one month to the next.

He stated that the rate of inflation for items produced domestically was 37.3%, while the rate for goods imported was 39.9%.

Eight more regional areas experienced inflation rates that were higher than the 38.1% national average, with the North East having the highest rate at 54.4%.
