The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has dared opponents of the anti-gay bill in the House to rise up and be counted.

This comes on the back of the Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr/ Anyimadu Antwi in presenting the Committee report to the house for debate.

Religious leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities stormed the Parliament as the bill was being heard for the second time in the House.

In his opening remarks after the presentation of the Committee’s report on the anti-gay bill, the Speaker of Parliament called on Members of Parliament in the house who are against the bill to stand and object to it.

He however added that considering the numbers in the house on Wednesday July 5, 2023 he will still open the floor for the debate.

“One hundred and sixty-five are in support of the bill, anybody who disagrees be on your feet. Honorable members since all members are in support of the bill. I’m definitely not going to gag the house, no. I will definitely give you the opportunity to expand and improve further the submissions that have been made.

“So that at the consideration stage it will be enriched by your contributions to make a proper amendment to the bill. I don’t intend to prevent you from contributing. But I just wanted everybody to be clear that none is against the bill then we move on. In view of the numbers I’m tempted to give some time,” Mr. Bagbin stated.
